Он выкупает предприятие, на котором работал и реорганизует его в компанию «Рассвет», в которой становится председателем правления. В начале двухтысячных годов он также является главным конструктором собственного предприятия. Сабашук расширяет свой бизнес и пробует себя уже в других направлениях. Так, в 2002 году он открывает домостроительный комбинат. Его коммерческие структуры начинают работать по всей территории страны. Помимо предпринимательской деятельности, Петр Петрович активно интересуется политикой. Пытался дважды стать мэром Запорожья, однако каждый раз на выборах занимал только третье место. В 2002 году ему удалось попасть в главный парламент страны в качестве народного избранника. Принял участие Сабашук и в следующих выборах в Раду, как член объединения «ПОРА», однако потерпел неудачу. В 2006 году становится депутатом городского совета Запорожья. На тот момент Петр Петрович является членом объединения «Реформы и порядок. В свое время был сторонником Ющенко и даже в 2010 году возглавил его избирательный штаб в Запорожье. В 2012 году принял участие в очередных парламентских выборах, но занял только лишь второе место по 74 округу. Сабашук удалось попасть в Раду только на внеочередных выборах, проходивших в 2014 году. В настоящее время он состоит в президентской фракции «БПП», кроме этого является заместителем председателя комитета, занимающегося проблемами строительства.
